Synopsis: From Amazon
"They had nothing in common until love gave them everything to lose . . .
Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.
Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.
A Love Story for this generation, Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn’t have less in common—a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?"

Thoughts:
This story started out slow for me, had I not been reading it for a book club I may have not read it. As a matter of fact, I think I have started this book previously and didn't get very far into it. However, after getting several chapters in I was hooked. I couldn't put down the book. The author does a great job of capturing the relationships between not only the lovers of the story but of the relationships that take place within families. The topic of the book is heart wrenching and made me question my own values and the decisions I would make if I found myself in this same situation. This author has been added to my favorite's list and I look forward to catching up with the previously released titles as well as the future releases.

  1. Cindy,
I agree wholeheartedly with your thoughts on the book. I read this on a plane and had very few options with me and luckily I had to push through the first few chapters and was so glad I did! I generally prefer a faster paced novel but this was a patron recommendation so I wanted to try it. I also enjoyed the relationships between all of the characters!

  2. I struggle with books that are slow in the beginning. Usually if a book doesn't catch my attention after the first two chapters, I just can't continue on. I know this has prevented me from reading some really great books.

My mom has read every single Danielle Steel book ever - some multiple times. There are only a few that I really enjoyed, primarily Jewels, Fine Things, and the Gift.
